Newcastle United finished 12th in 2020/2021 Season on 45 points.
Looking at the previous campaign for Newcastle there can't be too much cause for concern as they survived the drop quite comfortably, finishing 17 points ahead relegated Fulham in 18th. The issues for the fans is the ownership and the lack of financial thrust being put into the club by Mike Ashley. The only real noticeable action from Ashley is the funding for the signing of Joe Willock from Newcastle, which in truth was processed poorly and took quite some time to get over the line. But will this be enough for Newcastle, are issues off the pitch going to hamper the performances by the players on the pitch? It's obvious that Newcastle fans want Ashley out of the club and that they proposed takeover is a distant ambition. According to reports by Sky Sports, "Newcastle United's arbitration proceedings against the Premier League over last year's aborted takeover bid have been adjourned until early 2022, (Sky Sports, 2021). Newcastle need to remain patient with the process of this takeover and unfortunately must endure Ashely and his reign for at least another season. Newcastle fans the removal of Ashley will improve performances on the pitch and create a refreshing new model within the club, but Newcastle need to ensure the takeover's process is steady by first focusing on remaining within the top-flight. Nonetheless, not much people care for off-field affairs and believe the coach and his players is where the club's fortune reside. I personally strongly empathize with Newcastle supporters and understand the conception that issues at the hierarchy of any club transpires down to the rest of the infrastructure, including the team, and over the last few years we've witnessed some hostile environments inside St. James Park. On the pitch, Newcastle will be hoping the likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin can continue their standout performances, coupled with the emergence of Joe Willock, who scored 8 goals in 14 appearances with the club, an impressive return from a midfielder. There are some players in the squad who are on the verge of retiring or are not up to scratch with the demands of the Premier League anymore, but this is where fans are frustrated, they know they need reinforcements but at the moment it does not look like arriving. Not this season anyway. Fans need to stay optimistic and support their team on the pitch and back in a full stadium for the new season, off-field issues will resolve itself, but for Newcastle it's all about either improving on their respectful finish of 12th or, depending on how the season develops, ensure they are in still in the league come 2022. Steve Bruce will need his players ready for another fight and with the return of the Geordie faithful, they should be royally backed.
